We recently posted at Best of New Zealand Golf how great it was to see such a small country finally beginning to receive recognition as a top golfing destination. New Zealand had four courses in the list of 50, including 3 in the top 10!
However Australia and New Zealand have a friendly competition in many areas, so we are equally pleased to see Golfweek recognize Australia with 3 of its own in the top 10:
- Barnbougle Dunes (3)
- Cape Wickham (5)
- Barnbougle Lost Farm (8)
So that's 60% of the best new International courses being built in either Australia or New Zealand since 1960. Not too shabby! Where the Aussies separate themselves from the Kiwis is by the number of courses which are recognized in the remaining portion of the list. Three more for Australia are included in the top 50, including:
- National (Gunnamatta) (21)
- Moonah Links (Open) (32)
- Moonah Links (Legend) (48)
In the next few years our prediction is that New Zealand will add 2-3 new courses to the list, with a possibility of receiving close to HALF of the top 10. Australia is building a new course East of Hobart at 7 Mile Beach which should be incredible as well. Additionally, Kangaroo Island is said to have finally cleared permission for a course as well.
Either way, all of this is good news for the traveling golfer! Contact our team today and we would be happy to help you share and experience all of this for yourself!
