Victoria - The Sandbelt

“Pretty much nowhere else in the world has sand that behaves like our sand. You can get it incredibly firm but yet grow great grass. There’s low-lying heathland vegetation and great big trees, and that always creates a great environment to be around. -Geoff Ogilvy

Victoria is well known to be home to the best golf in Australia and one of the finest stretches of golf in the world. With a majority of the Australian clubs recognized here as being ranked near the top in the world, it is a must-play for the passionate golfer. These courses benefit from being built on natural sandy loam that allows for not only easy and fast drainage but ideal for growing conditions and easy maintenance of playing surfaces.

The region is split between Sandbelt collection of courses, roughly 30 minutes from the city's CBD. The World Cup of golf has been played six times in Australia as of 2018, with all of them on the Sandbelt (Royal Melbourne, Kingston Heath and Metropolitan).

Although this region certainly has more courses than are listed, our focus is to help introduce clients to the best golf, with an emphasis on access to other activities in the area.

Royal Melbourne

Designed in 1926 by Alister MacKenzie, Royal Melbourne is Australia's best-known course and the corwn jewel that defines great golf in the Sandbelt area.

Kingston Heath

Designed to maximize space and show off superb bunkering, Kingston Heath is considered one of the best year-round conditioned courses in Australia and one of the highest ranked courses in the world.

Victoria Golf Club

Slanted greens and Alistair Mackenzie-influenced bunkering give Victoria a reputation as the most artfully laid-out course in the Sandbelt.

Metropolitan Golf Club

Famous for its conditioning and attention to detail, Metropolitan GC is second to none in its bunkering and beautiful contouring- a favorite of many who play the area and likely the most difficult course in the area.

Commonwealth Golf Club

Commonwealth is a Sandbelt course that features strategic short par-4s. While some may scoff at the overall length of the course, accurate play within the tree-line and strict attention to placement are needed to score well.

Woodlands GC

Overlooked for too many years within the Sandbelt, today Woodlands GC deserves to be recognized as a hidden gem- with excellent strategic holes that rival some of the best in the area.

Customer reviews

Just wanted to thank you again for such a memorable trip. The best of my life. Still processing all that we saw and played. Blown away. I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

What a fabulous itinerary you made for us. It was perfect!

Wonderful country, delightful people, delicious food, and amazing scenery like no other. I guess our only major complaint is that we didn't have longer to see more of the country! It felt balanced in the way of activities, driving days, photo opportunities, even some R&R in the afternoons.
